How to prevent dry skin this winter?

Your skin response to the changing weather. Have you ever noticed that? If yes then you have likely noticed, that your skin starts getting drier and flakier winter approaches.

Winter Cold air, dry indoor temperature, the low humidity level in the air, and winter wind will destroy your skin moisture. These will leave your skin looking dull, flaky, and less radiant than normal. Not only your hand, feet, and face but other areas which are exposed.

What Causes Dry Skin?

Several factors cause dry skin:

1, Weather:

In general, we see that winter air is dry due to less humidity in the air. The winter dry air takes away the moisture from your skin by making your skin dry and flaky especially the body parts that are more exposed to your face and hair.

2, Exposure to Water:

It is common sense that dry is opposite to wet. When your skin is exposed to hot water in winter it becomes cracked or flaky. By taking a long and hot shower take away skin’s natural oil which leads to dry skin.

3, Exposure to Chemicals:

This goes hand in hand with exposure to water. People often get exposed to the chemicals in the form of frequent use of hand wash and use plenty of soap while taking bath. Exposure to water frequently will remove natural oil from the skin leaving your skin irritated. Swimmers who are exposed to chlorine get harsh effects on the skin.

4, Age:

When you age your skin becomes thinner and drier. More dry skin in a woman is due to hormonal changes that can lead to menopause or hyperthyroidism.

How to prevent your Dry skin:

Making some changes in your daily skin regimen and habits by using the right products that shoot your skin during winter, making these small changes will be able to keep your skin smooth, soft, and vibrant during the dry winter season.

Take these steps to keep your skin moist and healthy:

1, When the humidity drops or your skin starts feeling dry, be sure to close bathroom doors while taking bath.

2, Keep your shower time short by 5 to 10 minutes to avoid drying out of the skin as it strips out the natural oils.

3, Use warm water instead of hot water, hot water strips away the natural oil of the skin which locks the moisture, and it is vital to replace them.

4, Avoid harsh chemical soap or body wash. It’s best if you use light gentle cleansing creams or shower gels or mild bath soap added with moisturizers.

5, Pat dry your body, do not rub your skin strongly with a towel or washcloth when you’re out from the bath or shower. Treat your skin gently so that there is still a trace of moisture left on your skin after wash.

6, Apply moisturizer immediately after taking a bath, use moisturizing cream to trap existing moisture of the skin.

7, Use a humidifier for hot and dry indoor air as heating inside the house will make your skin itchy and dry use a portable home humidifier.

8, Take an oatmeal bath which will help to hold in the moisture to your skin by forming a protective barrier.

9, Choose fabrics to wear in winter that is nice to your skin. Fabrics such as cotton, silk, or Natural fabrics allow your skin to breathe.

10, Another step to keep your skin healthy and glowing is to make sure you are well hydrated from inside all day long. Eat food that is high in omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants.

Conclusion:

Reduce the use of Hand sanitizer as it contains alcohol which can dry your skin. Many home remedies or over-the-counter lotions can help to heel your dry skin. If your condition does not improve, consult a dermatologist if your dry skin problem is getting worse.
