First impressions: Things women notice in a man at first sight

Whoever said women don’t notice intricate details about a man, was so wrong! They definitely notice everything; from what he’s wearing to how he speaks to even his body language and his gestures. So, if anytime, you want to probably wear a five-day-old shirt for a date, don’t! Because she will notice and she will in all likelihood, judge! Or maybe, she won’t care BUT she will notice regardless.

So, let’s check out what women actually look at, physically, in a man and decide instantly if she wants to pursue a conversation with him!

While women notice everything about you when they see you, there are a few things they notice at first, either consciously or subconsciously, and these few things decide how they want to take their time with you forward. The physical aspects obviously get noticed first before any other personality traits. So here are the first few things women notice about men, which do not in any way go amiss!

  • Your Hair/Beard

Your hair is the most noticeable thing to a woman and usually, it helps them decide if they really like it or understand it! Maybe because it’s the topmost physical feature on your body. Most women do not prefer unkempt or untidy hair and neither are they big on man-buns, undercuts or mushrooms anymore. The recent trend is to just keep it simple and aesthetically appealing and take care of it, is all! A good conditioner always does the trick!

Women don’t mind a man with a beard as long as he grooms it well and keeps it trimmed and neat! Yes, a beard is one of the most noticeable physical features in a man!

  • You Nails/Hands

A man with dirty fingernails is a big no-no! Trust me, no woman wants to indulge in banter with someone who can’t even keep his nails clean! She will also notice the length of your nails and if they’re untidily cut or too long for her to handle, she’s really going to freak out a bit. Yes, we know women have long nails too and it might seem like they have double standards but if we’re going with regular old school beauty standards, women usually like men with clean, short nails.

Women also look at hands frequently and notice the kind of gestures you make with your hands. Keep them clean guys, and don’t use your hands for gestures too often. It’s distracting!

  • Posture/Built

Women definitely check your posture out because posture determines the innate need to be protected. If a man stands tall, with his shoulders pushed back, he seems confident yet gallant, and in control of the situation, which most women look forward to. It gives them a sense of security. But if you’re slouching or leaning forward with your shoulders drooping down, it’s a sign that you’re nervous, anxious, uncertain with low self-esteem, which is a big turn off. So definitely keep your posture in check.

  • Clothes

Yes, women notice what you wear and more than noticing what you wear, they notice how you pull off whatever it is that you’re wearing. If you’re shabbily dressed, that surely is not going unnoticed. By shabby I don’t mean casual wear, I mean clothes that look dirty and unkempt or not properly worn. Make sure you tuck your shirts in, and your tees are never creased. Other than that, a suit is too formal and chappals are too casual. Be smart when you pick and choose your clothes for an evening out because they’re definitely going to up your quotient on the scoring card.

  • Body Odour

Yes, that’s not a noticeable thing as such but becomes mighty evident. What women actually notice is how you really smell and if you come off as a garbage heap, which has been kept in the sun for too long, there go all your chances, just like that! Invest in a good cologne, or a deodorant, that will definitely take care of your body odor. If you’ve just worked out, take a quick shower before you head out. It’s really going to help. You don’t want her to move 5 feet away from you before you even open your mouth!

  • Your Eyes

BIG yes on this one! While it is proven that men with light-colored eyes do tend to get more of the notice, it’s also men with eyes of the darkest brown that get the attention. But there’s more to it than just your eye color. Your eyes give out the most information about you, without you even knowing it. Your eyes show if you’re intense, jovial, scanning the room for something, or just over-confident about everything. And we don’t need to be body language experts to tell.

  • Your Shoes

It’s well-documented how aware of shoes women are. But do men pay attention to what they put on their feet? Probably not enough. Did you know that 64 percent of women judge a man’s fashion sense based on his shoes? 52 percent of women say they judge a man’s personality by his shoes; 36 percent say they use shoes to determine a man’s financial position, and 54 percent say men’s shoes reflect a guy’s attention to detail. Simply put: Guys, you are being judged. So, what can you do to make sure he’s got his footwear game locked down? We’ve got some simple tips for men to improve their shoe situation.

  • Cover those toes. Even if you’ve taken the plunge into pedicure land (and kudos to you if you have), toes are usually not the most attractive part of a man’s body. Skip sandals when you could be wearing boat shoes, sneakers, loafers… basically, anything other than sandals.
  • Never wear shiny black leather dress shoes with jeans
  • Suede desert boots look good on EVERYONE. When you’re looking for something nicer than trainers but less formal than black leather brogues, desert boots are your best friends
  • If your socks are white, we don’t want to see them. A hint of fun printed or colorful dress sock? That’s in style. But if your socks of are of the tubular variety and/or are gleaming white, they better stay tucked away
  • Match your shoes to your belt. This rule is an oldie but goodie. Wearing black shoes? Black leather belt. Even better – your camel shoes + camel belt combo

The observational skills of a woman are real. From the tiny speck of dust on your shoulder to the jarring color of your shoes—she notices everything about you the very instant you’ve walked into the room. And while she leaves no sight unobserved, these are the few things about you she has definitely noticed under 10 seconds. If you have these little things in check, which are actually dependant on your natural hygiene, you’re all set. Maybe you can be mindful about these before you see her next time.
